Complexity of equational theory of relational algebras with standard projection elements

چکیده
The class TPA of true pairing algebras is defined to be the class of relation algebras expanded with concrete set theoretical projection functions. The main results of the present paper is that neither the equational theory of TPA nor the first order theory of TPA are decidable. Moreover, we show that the set of all equations valid in TPA is exactly on the Π11 level. We consider the class TPA of the relation algebra reducts of TPA’s, as well. We prove that the equational theory of TPA is much simpler, namely, it is recursively enumerable. We also give motivation for our results and some connections to related work. ∗Research supported by Hungarian National Foundation for Scientific Research grant Numbers T030314, T034861, and T035192.

András Simon COMPLEXITY OF EQUATIONAL THEORY OF RELATIONAL ALGEBRAS WITH PROJECTION ELEMENTS
In connection with a problem of L. Henkin and J.D. Monk we show that the variety generated by TPA’s – relation algebras (RA’s) expanded with concrete set theoretical projection functions – and the first–order theory of the class TPA are not axiomatizable by any decidable set of axioms. Indeed, we show that Eq(TPA) – all equations valid in TPA – is exactly on the Π1 level. The same applies if we...
متن کاملOn the Complexity of the Equational Theory of Relational Action Algebras
Pratt [22] defines action algebras as Kleene algebras with residuals. In [9] it is shown that the equational theory of *-continuous action algebras (lattices) is Π 1−complete. Here we show that the equational theory of relational action algebras (lattices) is Π 1−hard, and some its fragments are Π 1−complete. We also show that the equational theory of action algebras (lattices) of regular langu...
متن کاملThe equational theory of Kleene lattices
Languages and families of binary relations are standard interpretations of Kleene algebras. It is known that the equational theories of these interpretations coincide and that the free Kleene algebra is representable both as a relational and as a language algebra. We investigate the identities valid in these interpretations when we expand the signature of Kleene algebras with the meet operation...
متن کاملFeasibly Reducing KAT Equations to KA Equations
Kleene algebra (KA) is the algebra of regular events. Familiar examples of Kleene algebras include regular sets, relational algebras, and trace algebras. A Kleene algebra with tests (KAT) is a Kleene algebra with an embedded Boolean subalgebra. The addition of tests allows one to encode while programs as KAT terms, thus the equational theory of KAT can express (propositional) program equivalenc...

Let $mathcal {A} $ and $mathcal {B} $ be C$^*$-algebras. Assume that $mathcal {A}$ is of real rank zero and unital with unit $I$ and $k>0$ is a real number. It is shown that if $Phi:mathcal{A} tomathcal{B}$ is an additive map preserving $|cdot|^k$ for all normal elements; that is, $Phi(|A|^k)=|Phi(A)|^k $ for all normal elements $Ainmathcal A$, $Phi(I)$ is a projection, and there exists a posit...
